Happy 1st birthday, Logan! I can’t believe it’s been a year. It’s been the faster year of my life for sure. The first 6 months went by pretty slow, but the last 6 months went by in the blink of an eye. I feel like I’m going to blink and my kids will be in high school. This makes me really sad, but also makes me cherish every single day.

I know he’s only 12 months old, but I can already tell Logan’s going to be really smart. It picks up things so quickly. Maybe it’s because he has an older sibling, but he will watch Allie do something once and he’ll start doing it. He doesn’t communicate with a lot of words, but you always know how Logan’s feeling. When he happy he has the biggest grin on his face and when he’s upset you can hear him scream from a mile away. I love the way he looks at everything with so much wonder and joy.

What’s new this month:

  • he started clapping
  • loves giving high fives
  • loves drinking out of a straw cup
  • he is still very ready to walk, but won’t do it without holding onto something

Likes:

  • being held 24/7
  • following mommy, daddy, or allie around the house
  • when daddy plays the guitar
  • loves when I read to him
  • chewing on everything
  • playing with shoes
  • being in our basement with all the toys

Dislikes:

  • being in his car seat. We just switched him to a convertible car seat
  • when I don’t give him food fast enough
  • when I put him down

Things I want to remember:

  • His wet open mouth kisses
  • The way he puts his head on you to show love
  • How much he loves Allie and the way they play together
  • How fast he can crawl across the room
  • How much he loves food

Eating: He gets 4 bottles and 3 meals a day. He eats way more than Allie does which is crazy. We have started giving him whole milk and he loves it. We have his 12-month appt. on Wednesday and I’m going to talk to our pediatrician about slowly stopping giving him formula.

Sleep: He is still sleeping really well! He takes a short nap in the car in the morning. If we are home in the morning he will take a longer nap, but that rarely happens. In the afternoon he takes a 1.5-2 hour nap usually from 1:30-3pm. He goes to bed at 7 pm and wakes up at 6 am.

He is wearing size 4 diapers and 12 or 18-month clothes.

Happy 12 Months, Logan!

Logan – 11 Month Update http://www.sararuns.com/logan-11-month-update/ http://www.sararuns.com/logan-11-month-update/#comments Tue, 11 Sep 2018 19:37:38 +0000 http://www.sararuns.com/?p=3057 Logan will be 1 in a few short weeks! This was the fastest year of my life.

Tony and I were talking about how we have really started to bond more with Logan. For so many months all he did was whine and cry and now that he’s a lot happier we can really get to know him better. It’s so cool to watch him develop his own personality. He is already a stereotypical boy who loves balls and trucks. He really loves to follow me and Allie from room to room and play with everything he can get his hands on.

What’s new this month:

  • he started high fiving
  • walks around with his walker all over the house
  • went on our boat for the first time
  • says dada all the time
  • went to the exploritorium in Skokie for the first time and loved it

Likes:

  • being on the move
  • following mommy, daddy, and Allie everywhere we go
  • eating all the time
  • he loves attention from everyone
  • veggie straws, peas, and fruit are his favorite foods

Dislikes:

  • when I change his diaper
  • when I set him down
  • when his meal is over
  • when Allie takes his toys

Things I want to remember:

  • the way he follows me around the house
  • the way he leans his head on me to show love
  • his big smiles that light up a room
  • the way he watches Allie

Eating: Here’s a typical day.
6:00 am – 4 oz bottle
6:30 am – 1 scrambled eggs, strawberries and blueberries
9:30 am – 4 oz bottle
12:30 pm – chicken, peas, carrots, and veggie straws
3:00 pm – 4 oz bottle
5:30 pm – chicken, cottage cheese, and veggies
6:30 pm – 4 oz bottle

Sleep: He usually wakes up around 6 am, takes a nap on the way home from bootcamp or preschool, takes a 2-hour nap around 1:30 pm, and goes to sleep around 7 pm. He usually doesn’t wake up at night – which is amazing!

He is wearing size 4 diapers and 12-month clothes.

Happy 11 Months, Logan!

Logan – 10 Month Update http://www.sararuns.com/logan-10-month-update/ http://www.sararuns.com/logan-10-month-update/#respond Wed, 15 Aug 2018 01:04:10 +0000 http://www.sararuns.com/?p=3042 Logan is 10 months old….actually almost 10 1/2 months. We have been traveling a lot lately and Logan’s month update went on the back burner. So far this summer we have been to Green Bay, WI twice, Michigan, Mississippi, and we’re going to the Grand Geneva in Lake Geneva this weekend. We’ve had a lot of fun, but traveling with two little kids can be exhausting.

The next couple of weeks we are going to try to relax and enjoy the last few weeks of summer. August is our last month of Stroller Strides and Allie starts preschool in September so our schedule is really going to change.

What’s new this month:

  • he FINALLY has a little nub of his bottom tooth that popped through
  • he can walk when holding very lightly to his hands
  • he is babbling a lot more and sometimes it sounds like he’s saying dada
  • his eczema is getting better

Likes:

  • eating ALL THE FOOD! He eats more than Allie
  • making crazy noises and screaming all the time
  • when mommy and daddy walk into the room

Dislikes:

  • teething
  • when I’m not holding him
  • when I leave the room
  • when his meal is over

Things I want to remember:

  • the way he looks at me
  • the way he looks at Allie
  • how he chases Allie around the house
  • His happy screams

Eating: Logan seriously loves food. He gets 4 – 6oz bottles and 3 large meals. He loves fruit, veggie straws, corn, and avocado.

Sleep: He is still sleeping really well. He goes to bed around 7 pm and wakes up at 6 am. He’ll take a short nap at 8 am before we leave for Bootcamp or stroller strides, another short nap on our way home around 11 am and then sleeps for 1-2 hours when Allie naps in the afternoon around 1:30 pm.

He is wearing size 4 diapers and 12-month clothes.

He loves when I read to him and is starting to dance.

Happy 10 Months, Logan!

Logan – 9 Month Update http://www.sararuns.com/logan-9-month-update/ http://www.sararuns.com/logan-9-month-update/#respond Mon, 16 Jul 2018 18:49:25 +0000 http://www.sararuns.com/?p=3035 Logan is 9 months old! I can’t believe he has been out in the world for as long as he was in my belly. Time is going by so fast since I had him. I’m going to blink and he won’t be a baby anymore.

What’s new this month:

  • went to the beach and played in the sand for the first time
  • the first month he wasn’t sick in a long time
  • we found out all the rashes he’s been getting are eczema
  • took his first trip to Michigan and slept really well

Likes:

  • chewing on books
  • being in the shade
  • eating everything (he eats more than Allie!)
  • being in the tula, but I don’t use it as often as I used to
  • smiling at everyone

Dislikes:

  • teething
  • being hot and in the sun

Eating: Drinking 26 oz of formula each day. He has fruit and oatmeal for breakfast, veggies, and chicken for lunch and whatever we are eating for dinner. And he loves puffs! He’s getting a lot of fiber and poops at least 4 times per day.

Sleep: He’s still sleeping really well. I put him down around 6:30-7pm and he sleeps until 6 am. He will take a short nap around 7:45 am and then sleeps for another 15 minutes on our way home from Stroller Strides. I put him down for his afternoon nap when Allie goes down at 1:30 pm and he’ll sleep until 3 pm.

He is wearing size 4 diapers and 9-12 month clothes.

He hasn’t said any words and doesn’t talk much, but our pediatrician said it’s fine and he just needs to be saying 2-5 words by the time he is 12 months old.

9 months in and 9 months out!

Happy 9 months, Logan!

Logan – 8 Month Update http://www.sararuns.com/logan-8-month-update/ http://www.sararuns.com/logan-8-month-update/#respond Mon, 11 Jun 2018 18:44:04 +0000 http://www.sararuns.com/?p=3028 Logan is the sweetest little boy. He was such a fussy baby for so many months so I’m really enjoying all of his smiles and giggles right now! He used to cry 24/7, but now he is happy almost all the time. He will play by himself a little now and loves pulling himself up on everything. It’s funny to compare Allie and Logan. Allie didn’t pull herself up until after her first birthday and Logan seems like he might be walking by the time he’s 9 or 10 months. Allie didn’t walk until 15 months! It’s crazy how different each baby is.

What’s new this month:

  • pulling himself up on the tall couch
  • walking with us gently holding his hands
  • trying to climb out of this crib
  • sitting in the big seat at Stroller Strides

Likes:

  • putting everything in his mouth (Allie did not do this)
  • being outside
  • playing with tags
  • watching me workout during stroller strides

Dislikes:

  • when I don’t feed him fast enough
  • being tired
  • when I leave the room

Eating: He drinks 5-6 bottles per day that are 6 oz. I give him breakfast in the morning, usually an egg and strawberry or oatmeal. He’ll have avocado and some fruit for lunch and veggies with some chicken for dinner. We’re still doing a mixture of purees and chunks of food.

Sleep: I’m so happy to say that Logan is still sleeping well! Thank goodness!! He goes to bed around 7pm and he doesn’t wake up until 5-6am. He’ll take a short nap in the morning around 7-8am and a longer afternoon nap at 1pm. It’s so nice to have both kids napping at the same time!

He’s wearing size 4 diapers and 9-12 month clothes.

Happy 8 Months, Logan!

Logan – 7 Month Update http://www.sararuns.com/logan-7-month-update/ http://www.sararuns.com/logan-7-month-update/#respond Tue, 08 May 2018 19:07:33 +0000 http://www.sararuns.com/?p=3021 Logan is 7 months old! Pretty soon we will be celebrating his first birthday. It’s going by so fast!

Logan has been sick a lot this past month. He started crawling, can sit up on his own, and has been having a hard time with so many changes. He’s finally sleeping better again, but for 2 weeks he was waking up every 1-2 hours.

What’s new this month:

  • crawling
  • able to go from laying to sitting
  • sitting up unassisted
  • takes all of his naps and stays in his crib all night

Likes:

  • putting everything in his mouth
  • playing with tags
  • sleeping on his stomach
  • happiest sitting up
  • when mommy sings
  • when daddy plays the guitar

Dislikes:

  • when mommy leaves the room
  • when someone else holds him and it’s not mommy or daddy
  • teething
  • finishing his bottle

Eating: He drinks a lot of formula! Around 32-36 oz per day and I’m giving him solids twice a day. He likes purees more than pieces of food right now and he’s preferring savory vs. sweet foods.

Sleep: He is sleeping in his crib from 7pm- 5am most nights and wakes up around 2am to eat. He takes a nap every 2-3 hours and will sleep for almost an hour. I’m wondering when he will start skipping the late evening nap.

He is wearing size 4 diapers and 9-12 month clothes.

Now that it’s nice we are spending a lot more time out doors. We go to Stroller Strides in the morning and spend the afternoons in our back yard. I’m hoping the illnesses are behind us and he’ll be healthy for the rest of spring and summer.

Happy 7 months, Logan!

Logan – 6 Month Update http://www.sararuns.com/logan-6-month-update/ http://www.sararuns.com/logan-6-month-update/#comments Mon, 09 Apr 2018 19:25:50 +0000 http://www.sararuns.com/?p=3013 Logan turned 6 months last week! Things are FINALLY starting to get a little easier. As I type this, Logan is napping in his crib!! He has been napping and sleeping with me for the past 6 months so this is a big change. I started sleep training 2 weeks ago using the Ferber method where you let them cry it out, but you go in and check on them every 10 minutes. The first night he cried for over 2 hours. Napping was much easier, he would only cry for 20-30 minutes and now 2 weeks later he’s finally going down easier at night. Last night I put him down and he didn’t cry at all and he slept until 3am. Sleep training is NOT easy because I hate hearing my baby cry, but he needs to learn how to sleep in his crib.

Likes:

  • being held by mommy
  • getting up on his knees and rocking
  • putting everything in his mouth
  • sleeping on his stomach
  • watching mommy and Allie dance
  • being in the car seat

Dislikes:

  • being hungry
  • being put in his crib
  • teething
  • not being picked up
  • most foods

Eating: We are officially done nursing. I slowly started cutting back on our nursing sessions two weeks ago. I’m extremely happy for making it as long as I did.

We started giving Logan solids! We’ve given him: avocado, sweet potato, banana, peanut butter, applesauce, and peas. He doesn’t really like any of it yet and most of the food seems to be upsetting his stomach.

He is wearing size 4 diapers and 9 month clothes.

He gets up on his knees and rocks and scoots forward – he will be crawling soon!

He can almost sit up all by himself.

Happy half birthday, Logan!

Logan – 5 Month Update http://www.sararuns.com/logan-5-month-update/ http://www.sararuns.com/logan-5-month-update/#comments Wed, 07 Mar 2018 19:39:23 +0000 http://www.sararuns.com/?p=3001 Logan turned 5 months last week! He had his first cold, ear infection, and I think he is teething. He has not been an easy baby. He takes all of his naps on me in the tula (yes, I’ve created a monster), I have to get him to sleep in the tula before I put him down at night, and he is fussy if I’m not holding him.

I can’t believe I’m saying this because Allie wasn’t an easy baby, but she was easy compared to Logan, He is just very needy. Good thing he is cute! Whenever he does smile or giggle it just melts my heart and makes me forget about all the tough moments.

Tony and I had our first date night out where my Mom babysat and put both kids to bed. I was a nervous wreck before we left. Logan was sick and throwing up, and Allie hates going to bed so I knew it wasn’t going to be easy for my Mom, but she is a miracle worker and got both kids down so we could stay out until 11:30pm! We had so much fun with our friends going out to eat and to two bars in Evanston. We needed that night out for our sanity. Thanks, Mom! 🙂

Likes:

  • sleeping in the tula
  • looking at mommy
  • being held 24/7
  • watching his big sister
  • likes music
  • sleeping on his tummy
  • flipping over onto his tummy, he won’t lay on his back longer than 10 seconds

Dislikes:

  • sleeping in the crib
  • when you’re not paying attention to him
  • when you’re not holding him
  • being hungry

Eating: I’m breastfeeding him 4-5 times per day, but I don’t think he’s getting a lot of milk from me. He is getting 4-5 6oz bottles of formula. I’m going to try to make it through this month and stop breastfeeding when he hits 6 months. He prefers the bottle and I barely pump 2-3 oz for him. I’m sad, but also happy to be done with it.

Tony gave him avocado and a few licks of an orange a couple of times, but I don’t plan to really start giving him solids until his 6 months.

Sleep: Logan is napping on me in the tula because every single time I put him down he wakes up and screams. He is much happier when he naps so I’m just letting him to this for now. At night time he is either sleeping in the rock n play or in our bed. I will start sleep training him with the Ferber method when he hits 6 months.

We usually put him to bed around 7:00pm and he wakes up around 1am to eat and around 5-6 am. He takes a morning nap when we are at Stroller Strides, sleeps for an hour around 1 pm and then another hour around 4 or 5 pm.

Allie is 5 months old on the left and Logan is 5 months old on the right.

He is wearing size 3 diapers and 6-9 month clothes.

He can roll from back to stomach and very rarely rolls from his stomach to his back.

He has good control of his thumb and can hold objects for a long period of time.

He will probably be able to sit up by himself soon.

He found his feet and likes to grab them.

Happy 5 months, Logan!

Logan – 4 Month Update http://www.sararuns.com/logan-4-month-update/ http://www.sararuns.com/logan-4-month-update/#respond Fri, 02 Feb 2018 19:30:07 +0000 http://www.sararuns.com/?p=2981 Logan turned 4 months old this week!

His personality is really starting to show. He is babbling, cooing, and laughing a lot more. He loves when I look into his eyes and talk to him or sing, and really loves watching his big sister.

He is already scooting himself backward! Allie was around 7 months when she started scooting. I’ve heard the second baby does everything sooner because they are watching the older sibling.

Likes:

  • napping in the crib (we just started this last week and he sleeps so much better in the crib)
  • sleeping in the tula
  • jumping in the jumper
  • holding your hand
  • when you sing to him
  • sitting in his highchair (we just started putting him in there this week)
  • chewing on his hands
  • watching his big sister

Dislikes:

  • being in the car
  • being put down (he wants to be held 24/7)
  • being overtired (I have to put him down for a nap every 1.5-2 hours)
  • sitting still, he wants to be moving

Eating: We’ll find out his measurements at his 4 month well check next week. I’ve been breastfeeding him 4-5 times a day and giving him 2 – 6oz bottles of formula. He likes when I nurse him in the morning, but my supply goes down in the afternoon so sometimes he gets frustrated so I’ll end up pumping. I want to continue breastfeeding for another month so he’ll get my breastmilk through the cold and flu season. My milk supply went down because I had the flu 2 weeks ago, but I started taking fenugreek and it’s gone back up.

Sleep: The big news is that we got him to nap in the crib! He still loves sleeping in the Tula, but he naps longer in the crib. We put him down for bed around 6:30pm-7: 00 pm and then he wakes up to eat around 3 am and wakes up for the day around 6-7am.

He is wearing size 3 diapers and 6-9 month clothes.

He reaches and holds onto everything, especially mommy’s hair.

Happy 4 months, Logan!

Logan – 3 Month Update http://www.sararuns.com/logan-3-month-update/ http://www.sararuns.com/logan-3-month-update/#comments Wed, 10 Jan 2018 21:12:55 +0000 http://www.sararuns.com/?p=2973 Logan turned 3 months old last week! He is no longer considered a newborn baby. He is sleeping so much better and has the sweetest personality. I love him more and more each day.

Logan is definitely a mama’s boy. He turns his head to follow me around the room and always wants to be able to see me.

Likes:

  • making bubbles with his spit (Allie never did this)
  • the sound machine (he won’t sleep without it)
  • kicking his legs
  • holding mommy’s fingers
  • looking at lights
  • looking at the TV
  • napping in his swing

Dislikes:

  • sleeping on a flat surface
  • being overtired
  • being stuck in the car seat for too long
  • when mommy leaves the room

Eating: I’m nursing him 5-6 times per day and he gets 1-2 6oz bottles of formula. I have been pretty stressed lately (potential big life changes) and my milk supply has gone down. 🙁

Sleep: He is sleeping so much better! He goes to bed around 8 pm, wakes up at 1a or 2a to eat and then wakes up for the day around 6-7a. He usually takes a long 2-hour nap from 9-11am but doesn’t sleep much in the afternoon. Maybe 2 20 minute naps. It would make my life much easier if he took a long afternoon nap when Allie does, but I know it will happen eventually.

He is still sleeping in the rock n play and I don’t feel guilty about it. He is sleeping better so I don’t want to ruin a good thing. When he is 4 months I will try to move him into a crib.

He is wearing size 2 diapers and 3-6 month clothes.

Happy 4 months, Logan!
