Mindful Eating Clinic at Fleet Feet Sports

My business, Coach Sara, has been busy the last few weeks. I conducted a mindful eating clinic at Fleet Feet Sports Chicago this weekend. The topic was designed to help the participants stay on track with healthy eating during the holidays. At Fleet Feet and CES we talk a lot about fueling for a race, but there’s so much more to healthy eating so that’s why I chose the mindful eating topic. Hoping it will get everyone to be more intuitive with their eating and slow down during the holidays.

Mindful Eating

I talk a lot about learning the difference between emotional and physical hunger and how the Hunger Scale can be a helpful tool. When you start feeling like you want something to eat rate your hunger on a scale of 1-10, with 1 being starving and 10 being so full you feel sick. A rating of 5 or 6 means you’re comfortable. Ideally eat when your hunger is at 3 or 4. I recommend not waiting until your hunger gets down to a 1 or 2. Getting too hungry can lead to overeating. Stop eating when you reach a 7 or 8.

I usually get nervous when I’m presenting, but I was a lot more relaxed for these two clinics. I had a lot of fun and I’m excited to start planning my next presentation for Fleet Feet.

  1. I’m sorry I missed your Lincoln Square visit, I didn’t realize it was happening until afterwards! Anyway, I tend to get hungry then gorge until I’m way over full (mostly at dinner). I probably need to eat more in-between meal snacks and eat more protein for breakfast and lunch.

    • Try to eat every 3-4 hours. That will definitely help you from getting too hungry and will prevent overeating. Let me know if you need any good snack ideas. 🙂

  2. Let me know when you’re at the Roosevelt location. I refuse to go up north. 🙂 I have no control over my eating habits. I just eat and eat.
