Mizuno Wave Sayonara

Mizuno Wave Sayonara

I have tried Mizuno running shoes in the past and I wasn’t a big fan. I found the Mizuno Wave Precision to be too bulky and high on my ankle. So when I heard about the new Mizuno Wave Sayonara I didn’t know if I would like them. However, I was intrigued by the specs: medium level heel-toe drop at 10mm, fairly light at 7.9 ounces. (Disclosure: These shoes were given to me free of charge as a CES Running Coach since Mizuno is one of our sponsors).

I was originally going to only wear them for coaching, but I have liked them so much I’m using them for runs on my own. The shoe is light and responsive and has a little more cushion than my Saucony Kinvaras. My biggest issue with the Precision was where it hit on my ankle and I definitely could feel the Sayonara doesn’t come up so high.

Overall, I really like how plush, comfortable and smooth they feel. They feel more like an extension of my foot. I’m really excited to have found a daily trainer that feels fast. The Sayonara is definitely going to be my go-to shoe for longer runs. I think my body will appreciate the extra cushion.

Matt, Mizuno rep extraordinaire, told me I would love the Sayonara and he was right!

Have you tried the Mizuno Wave Sayonara?

What’s your go-to shoe for long runs?

  1. Sounds like a great shoe. I’m a fan of the Mizuno Wave Inspire 8s. I am a pronator so I need the support that the Inspire’s give me.

    • Glad to hear you’re a Mizuno fan! I’ve never heard of the Wave Inspire…I’ll have to check them out the next time I’m at Fleet Feet.

    • I also wear Wave Inspires as a pronator for training, but love the Wave Sayonara as my go to racing shoe. I wore them for the Chicago Marathon this year. The big toe box and cushioning actually came in handy after I fractured the tip of my big toe in late October. I could still run comfortably in the Sayonaras. The only downside is the upper is wearing for me on the insides a bit faster than I’d like. Some of the fabric is torn and I have less than 200 miles on the shoe. I probably need to fix my form since I think my shoes are brushing each other when I run.

  2. Cute shoes! Gotta love shoes in great colors! I’ve ran in the Mizuno Elixir

Currently I am running in the Brooks Pure Connect for all of my runs. Love them.
