Running is always fun. Racing is even better. When you haven’t been training, just running for fun, there’s no reason to put pressure on yourself to PR at a race. It would set you up for failure and disappointment and that’s never fun.
I won a free race entry for the Bastille Day 5k & 8k from Chicago Runner Girl and I’ll be running the Chinatown 5k on Saturday as part of my friends bachelorette party.
I’m going to run both of these races without a Garmin and I’ll run them by feel. I’m excited to let go of the “I’m racing” concept and just go run for fun.
Have you ever run a race just for fun?
you go girl! Both of those sound super fun and I wish I coulda fit them into my schedule! 🙂

Thanks, Brooke! They were so much fun and I’m shocked I was able to work them into my schedule.
Post race photo looks like it was a happy fun time!
Running by feel is the way to go! I like reading the stories of the Ethiopian and Kenyan runners that keep it so simple, and are just amazing! internalizing your pace and having that mental speedometer is great!

Running by feel is the way to go. I had actually had a decent time for the 8k and enjoyed not wearing a Garmin.
My training kind of fell off a few months ago, so lately all of my races have been “for fun.” It has been fun, but I find that I’m not as motivated, so I might need to pick a goal race for the fall.

Yeah, I understand. It’s good to have 1 or 2 goal races throughout the year. Are you planning on running a full this year?
