First Time Out, Without Baby

First Time Out, Without Baby

So at some point, you may start thinking about leaving the house. By yourself, without your baby! Well, I did just that for the first time on Sunday.

It was a stressful day, but so worth it. I was debating if I should go all morning. I pumped enough milk so Tony could feed her, quickly took a shower, prayed Allie would sleep for Tony, and finally left the house.

Once I was on the highway, I cried because I felt guilty for leaving Allie, for leaving Tony, and I cried because I felt free and it felt good.

My destination was the CES coaches and pacer party. We were celebrating the end of our training cycle for the Chicago Marathon. It was so nice to see my friends. Of course, I spent almost the entire time talking about Allie.

After 2 hours of catching up, I was ready to rush home to be with my family and cuddle with my baby girl. Tony said he enjoyed the time with Allie and she slept almost the entire time.

It was nice to take a 2 hour break. I came back feeling refreshed and ready to take on my mommy duties.

So what I learned and my message to other mothers: it’s okay to take a break and to leave your baby in the trusted care of another.

  1. Good to hear you got out and had a good time. It’s probably a healthy thing to do to get out once and awhile for a well deserved break! Also, that beer looks delicious! ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Good for you! We did our first morning away from the baby for the 20 miler. Rock’s cousin is a kindergarten teacher and just plain awesome. She was great with her and it went well. Last Saturday we also hosted a huge fundraiser for the MDA at our apartment and took Mary to a friends for a few hours. I felt guilty for not feeling guilty about doing it. But you know what? It was totally fine and good for all of us! So glad you got out and had a good time ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Cheers for some YOU time! I had my first outing without Axel last weekend – met up with a friend for coffee. My husband and I went out to dinner for his birthday on Tuesday and left Axel with Grandma and Grandpa… it was only a couple hours, but I was definitely nervous because we have yet to introduce a bottle. That is going to change either today or tomorrow. What was it like the first time you introduced a bottle to Allie? What kind of bottles are you using?

    • Good for you for getting out! Allie took a bottle around 3 weeks and we haven’t had any issues. We’ve tried every kind of bottle and Dr. Brown’s bottle is the best! It has the slowest flow so it doesn’t cause as much gas.

  7. I’m glad to hear you were able to break away for a little bit. Everyone needs to re-charge every so often! ๐Ÿ™‚ And it sounds like Tony and Allie will enjoy their father daughter time over the years as well <3

  8. I know how tough it must have been for you to go out on your own! Cheers to you for doing it. You need and deserve that time to yourself to recharge! Time away to breathe makes such a difference – and it really helps you to appreciate that time when you ARE back together, yes? It’s really healthy. =)

  9. So glad you went out and had a good time! ๐Ÿ™‚
