A New Chapter

A New Chapter

8 Months ofΒ  job searching and I FINALLY found a great job. My new position is an account manager at an advertising agency. I’m basically the liaison between our graphic designers and the clients we’re working for.

I was so excited (and nervous) on Monday morning, I could barely sleep the night before. It’s only been two days but I’m loving it so far. My supervisor and coworkers have been super nice. Most of my coworkers are in their mid-twenties to early thirties so we all have a lot in common. I was ecstatic to find out the girl I share an office with is a runner AND she’s running the Chicago Marathon! We are going to be very good friends. πŸ™‚

My Desk.

One of the biggest challenges I’m adjusting to is my commute to work. Instead of driving 5 minutes across town to work I’m driving 30 minutes to the train station and then 45 minutes on the train.

I hate that it takes me 30 minutes just to get to the train but the ride it self is GREAT! No traffic and I can text and tweet all I want. πŸ™‚ I’m a little worried about riding the train in the winter because I’m the biggest baby when it comes to cold weather but the Metra stop is right across the street from my office so I don’t think it will be that bad.

In other news….

The Chicago Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon is only 2 1/2 weeks away! I can’t wait to run my second 1/2 marathon. If you’re running the race or live in Chicago you should come to the post-race tweetup I’m co-hosting with Chanthana and Jenny.

I’m proud to be running with DetermiNation and I’m shooting to raise $1,000. Please consider supporting me with a donation. My Fundraising Page.

  1. What an exciting week!! Taking mass transit is great for catching up on various social networks πŸ™‚ Kinda like what I’m doing now! Haha. Can’t wait to host the meetup/tweetup with you and Jenny!

  2. So let me get this straight … you move deeper into the heart of the city AND change jobs to … [GASP!] the ‘burbs?!?!

    Good luck!

    • Yes, I’m moving to the city but I’ll still be working in the burbs. I’ve wanted to live in Chicago for so long & now that I’m back in IL I finally have the chance. I’m 25 & single so I think it’s the perfect time. πŸ™‚

  3. Glad to hear the new job is going well. We might be moving soon so i might be joining the metra masses. Yikes!

See you at the RnRChi half.

  4. How lucky that you are sharing an office with a runner doing Chicago! That is awesome! Good to hear that you like the new job!

That commute would kill me though….think of all the time you could spend running instead πŸ™

  5. Oh my gosh, I’m so glad you love it! I’m jealous that you have so many young people to work with! That commute sounds a little daunting, but I’m sure you’ll get the hang of it. Are you going to move into the city at some point? I know you said you were apartment hunting. Maybe you’ll find a roomie at work!

  6. Ouch. That commute would kill me. Currently I’m a 10 min drive from work. I cringe when people tell me they drive 20 to work. Maybe to fit in extra running you can run up and down the train cars!! Haha Imagine that site.

  7. That commute would kill me. πŸ™‚ currently I walk a mile to work.

It’s great you have at least one person who understands distance running. I’m the running freak at my office. Lol

  8. Yah for the new job! That’s a long commute but you can do it! I had an hour train commute when I went to school in the city!

  9. CONGRATULATIONS!!! This is wonderful! I’m so happy for you, I know you’re going to do awesome. Yey! πŸ˜€

  10. You are super inspiring to me!!! You healed faster (as opposed to my 11 weeks and counting) and found a job faster (as opposed to my 2+ years and counting)…I want to do whatever it is you’re doing!! But congratulations again!!! I’ve been waiting to hear what this new job was!! Hope the apt shopping is going well so you can be closer! πŸ™‚

  11. I miss taking the train to work! Currently I commute 45 minutes from the west burbs to the south burbs. My last job was downtown but my Metra station was a mile from my office. If the weather was bearable, I walked it, but if it was too hot/cold/rainy/snowy I took the bus. Because it stopped like every block it took the same amount of time as walking but at least I wasn’t outside.

Anyway, once I stopped taking the Metra to work, I basically stopped reading for fun. I miss that sooooo much. Driving sucks.
