Vimbly – Knife Basics Class

Vimbly – Knife Basics Class

I recently had the opportunity to try out a Knife Basics class at Flavour Cooking School in Forest Park, IL. I was contacted by Vimbly to try out their services and I thought the Knife Basics class sounded like a lot of fun.

Vimbly is a fun site, featuring things to do in Chicago. The site includes dates and time available, in addition to prices for area attractions. I like that the site is extremely easy to navigate and has an interesting selection of culinary tours, informative classes and active-living events.

Flavour offers culinary techniques through a wide variety of cooking classes, whether you are a beginner or advanced. In the Knife Basics class they covered knife construction, selection and care, including sharpening and honing. Then we had a hands-on chopping session where we chopped minced, and sliced vegetables, and herbs.

Chef Steven

Chef Steven, a professional chef for more than 20 years, taught us a few basics tips:

  • Good knife skills require patience and practice.
  • If it feels good you’re probably doing it wrong.
  • Work through the discomfort and it will get easier.

Knife Basics Class

Since it was the basics, there were a lot of opportunities to practice and Chef Steven was constantly walking around the room correcting form and providing feedback. The class was very hands on so we all had the opportunity make mistakes and, more importantly, learn how to correct them. The class was a lot of fun, very informative and helped me become a more confident cook.

I had a great experience at the Knife Basics class and with Vimbly, and would definitely recommend using their website if you’re looking for something to do in Chicago!

Disclaimer: I was offered a free ticket for the class, however all opinions and thoughts are, as always, my own.
