My Passion

My Passion

Happy National Running Day!

National Running Day, held annually on the first Wednesday in June, is a day when runners everywhere declare their passion for running. Wherever we are and whomever we’re with, we run—fast or slow, alone or with others, all over town or just around the block. It is a coast-to-coast celebration of a sport and activity that’s simple, inexpensive, and fun. It’s the perfect way for longtime runners to reaffirm their love of running and for beginners to kick off a lifetime and life-changing commitment.

Have you found your passion in life? Five years ago I laced up my shoes, leashed up my puppy, and started to run. It was a hot summer day in Lake Mary, Florida and I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I have always been searching for my passion, searching for something I was good at, something that gave me confidence, and made me feel proud. It took me a long time to find my passion but I feel so blessed to have found it. I have always struggled with not feeling good enough….telling myself I’m not a good writer, singer, public speaker, etc., etc., but I AM A GOOD RUNNER! Running makes me feel alive and like I can accomplish anything I set my mind to.

Life is short. Get out there and find your passion.

“Believe that you can run farther or faster. Believe that you’re young enough, old enough, strong enough, and so on to accomplish everything you want to do. Don’t let worn-out beliefs stop you from moving beyond yourself.” – John Bingham

  1. Running is definitely a passion of mine, too! I’m not all that great at it, but it does give me confidence and make me proud of myself. I love that it’s something that is just for me. I don’t have to be the fastest or the strongest, I just have to show myself that I CAN do it. The sense of accomplishment I feel after a good run is unparalleled. Happy National Running Day to you, too! 🙂

    • Thanks Melissa. I love it for all those reasons too. Running has gotten me through a lot of ups and downs in my life. It’s the best kind of therapy.

  2. Very well put! This is a great way to describe running. It’s such a pep-talk that it makes me want to get up and go do it right now!! But, oh, that’s right…. This is giving us a fantastic story to tell our grandkids….”There was this summer back in ’11 that I was in a boot and couldn’t run, but then I came back–better, faster, stronger than ever and…” Yes, it’ll go just like that!! 🙂
Cherie recently posted..No running on National Running Day Blasphemy!

    • You are right! We’re going to look back on this experience and be thankful it happened because it made us faster and stronger. I’m so glad I have someone to go through this with!

  3. Sarah,

You ARE good enough! I know it can be much easier to say than do because I do struggle with feeling less than I am. It is something I have really been working on.

I am so glad that running has been such a wonderful addition to your life. I feel the same way about it. I only wish that it was warm here all the time! 🙂

    • Thanks Jenny. I think we all struggle w/ feeling less than but we have to fight those feelings. Wasn’t the weather perfect yesterday? I love summer in Chicago!
