Allison – 1 Month Update

Allison – 1 Month Update

Allie

Time flies when you don’t sleep! An entire month has passed since we welcomed sweet, baby Allison into the world. It’s been a crazy whirlwind of a month. Things have been rocky and stressful (not going to sugar coat it), but we’re starting to develop a routine. And I’ve never been happier or so in love.

We had our 1 month appointment on Friday and she’s up to a whopping 7 lbs 12 oz (she was 6 lbs 10 oz at birth). She’s still skinny, but she’s eating wonderfully and has gained circumference in her head and 1 inch in length (21 inches long). The doctor seemed pleased, as were we.

The last few days have been full of fussiness and gassiness, but she’s perfectly content when she’s eating or sleeping on Mommy.

Likes:

  • cuddling with Mommy
  • being held over Daddy’s shoulder
  • sleeping in the Tula
  • taking a bath
  • sucking on Mommy’s breast (TMI, but this is seriously her favorite thing)
  • visitors

Dislikes:

  • changing her diaper
  • having gas
  • having clothes put over her head
  • being alone
  • being put down

Schedule: During the day, Allie is on a 2 hour eat-play-sleep cycle. She wakes up around 7AM every morning and eats every two hours until she goes to bed around 10PM. In the last week her “play/awake” time has been getting a bit longer as she has been more alert, which is so much fun. It’s great to see her little personality more and more.

Eating: She eats like a champ! Lately she has been wanting to eat every 1-2 hours.

Sleep: The last few days she hasn’t slept well. I think she’s going through a growth spurt. We’ve been sleeping in the bed in the nursery since she wakes up every 2 hours and  so Tony can get some rest. She loves sleeping on Mommy’s chest.

She’s able to turn her head from side to side during tummy time.

She is still wearing newborn diapers and newborn clothes.

She has a very long torso like her Mommy.

She makes some seriously crazy facial expressions.

She loves watching Daddy sing and dance.

Her eyes are still blue but we’re guessing they will eventually turn brown.

We think she’ll have brown hair like her Daddy.

Happy 1 month, Allie!

  1. Happy 1 Month! She’s so sweet and SO alert! Love the pics – hard for me to think my son was that little once! Sounds like you and Allie have a great routine albeit with little sleep ?

    • I know I’m going to look back and it’s going to be hard to imagine Allie being this small. That’s why I’m blogging monthly updates. I know I’m going to love to look back.

  2. One month already!? Wow. Glad to hear that you are all settling in to a routine. Does Allie cry whenever you change her diaper? Maybe this is a newborn thing but Axel cries all the time when we change his diaper, especially at night. You would think that they would be ok with it. Maybe it is something that changes with age?

  4. She is so stinking cute! Our son screams bloody murder whenever we change his diaper. That’s about the only time he cries though so it’s not bad! He’d cry if we tried to leave him alone but with 4 adults in the house someone is always holding him. Now that Travis is gone I can see us sleeping together in bed more (with him on my chest.) I’m SO paranoid about him rolling off or rolling face first into a pillow I have laid out on either side of me.

    • She screams like crazy when I change her. Makes me feel so bad. Allie will sleep in the rock n play for naps but wants to be on my chest at night. I’m going to let it continue for a little while because I love it but we’ll break the habit by 3 months. Let’s enjoy the cuddles now.

  5. Happy 1 month little girl! It was so lovely to see you yesterday. So awesome. I love her expressions–the eyes are hilarious! I can’t wait until I get to meet her!

  6. Oh, do I know that feeling of no sleep! It honestly does get better. But at one point a few weeks ago I told Rock that it felt like when you are injured and feel like you will never run again. I felt like we were never going to get past the 3 hour mark at night. Last night she did two 4 hour sleeps. It was amazing. Mary has been having horrible gas and we finally did the drops that and really helped her. She also has been having phases of not wanting to be set down and that got frustrating when I started to feel like I was getting NOTHING done. But now that she is more alert and likes looking around she seems to love time in her swing to watch us and the mobile. You are rocking it momma!

  10. Aw… I love these updates! You’re going to love going back and reading them later too. It’s nice to get a glimpse into my very near future and I always appreciate the honesty.

When you say newborn clothes….I have literally like 3 newborn outfits. I’ve just been assuming she’ll be immediately in the 0-3 month/3 month clothes. I guess she’ll just have to wear diapers if she doesn’t come out big like I anticipate!

    • You will probably be fine with what you have. Allie was two weeks early so she’s on the small side. I’m guessing she’ll be able to wear 0-3 months when she is 7-8 weeks old.
