Allison’s Birth Story: Part Two

Allison’s Birth Story: Part Two

Check out part one of Allie’s birth story!

Oxygen

On Wednesday morning I was put on oxygen because the pitocin was causing strong contractions and Allie’s heart rate was dropping. I know it was difficult for Tony and my Mom to see me on oxygen and we all got nervous when the nurse mentioned I might need a c-section if her heart rate got too low. Luckily that didn’t happen.

At 11:00a.m., my nurse checked me and said I was ready to go! I was finally at ten centimeters! Dr. Hood came in the room and said it was time to start pushing. Tony was near my head, my Mom was holding my left leg, and the nurse was holding my right leg – I was ready! At first it felt like I didn’t know how to push, but as her head got lower it became easier to feel what I was pushing. At this time I had pushed for an hour an half and the entire time my stomach was growling. I remember asking everyone in the room if they could hear my stomach. I was hungry and exhausted!

At 12:30p.m. Dr. Hood came back in the room and said I was getting closer. Her being in the room really motivated me to push as hard as I possibly could. I didn’t want her leaving the room again, I wanted to meet my baby! My Mom and Tony’s eyes started to light up when they could see Allie’s head. At one point I touched her head and felt a huge rush of emotions. I knew I was minutes away from meeting our baby girl and I felt so alive and happy.

All of sudden my nurse told me to stop pushing and I heard Dr. Hood say something about the umbilical cord. I froze and started to freak out. My doctor quickly pushed Allie’s head back in and pulled the umbilical cord over her head. They handled it so calmly and efficiently! I pushed again and my beautiful baby girl was lifted in the air holding on to her umbilical cord for dear life – lol. I heard her cry and then I immediately started to cry as I looked at my baby and looked up at Tony to see his eyes fill with tears.

Allie RIght When Born

At 1:03p.m. after 2 hours of pushing I was holding Allison Kay in my arms. She weighed 6 pounds, 10 ounces, and was 20 inches long. I didn’t want to let her go so the nurse examined her and she got her shots while she was on my chest.

Allie's first bath

The story doesn’t end here. Baby Allie was doing well right after birth but I had some complications.

Part three coming soon…
