Coffee Date 10.4.16

Hello there! Long time, no blog.

Let’s have a “coffee date” and catch up!

coffee date

If we were having coffee today, I’d tell you…

The Chicago Marathon is in 5 days! I’m REALLY looking forward to it. I have not been able to run this race in YEARS so I’m really excited to run 26.2 miles in my favorite city. I’m especially excited for Allie, Tony, and my Mom to cheer for me and to be waiting for me at the finish line.

My number 1 goal is to have fun. I know I’m not going to PR or qualify for Boston, but I’m kind of hoping to run under 4 hours. All of my long runs have been with the 9 or 9:30 group while coaching and all of my mid-week runs are with Allie in the jogging stroller so I haven’t done a lot of speed work, but I think I can maintain a 9 minute pace. The key is to not go out too fast. I’m going to start with the 4 hour pace group and then check in with myself around 13 miles to see if I can go any faster.

Allie and I are both getting over colds. I’m not sure if it’s because Allie’s had a cold or she’s teething, but she’s been a horrible sleeper lately. Being a mom when you’re sick and your child sick is the worst. We’ve been stuck in the house, cancelling play dates, and it’s been really rainy lately. We’ve missed seeing our friends, but hopefully we’ll both be better soon so we can get out of the house more. I’m worried about not getting a lot of sleep before the marathon so I told Tony I’m going to sleep in the basement on Friday and Saturday night. He can take the night shifts with Allie. 🙂

Allie is growing and changing so much lately. Within the last two weeks she’s started walking with her walker, walking with me holding one hand, trying to climb on everything, and talking constantly. She has conversations with herself all day and it’s adorable.

My birthday is this Friday and it’s going to be such a fun day. My Mom, Allie, and I are going to the Chicago Marathon Expo right when it opens on Friday. We’ll spend the morning there and then we’re going to Evanston to meet Tony for lunch. In the afternoon I’m going to head back to Chicago to meet my Dad and stepmom at Wrigley for the Cubs first playoff game! Yay, I’m excited.

If we were having coffee, what would you tell me about?

  1. Have a great birthday! I hope Allie spoils you ;).

I can’t even remember the last time Amelia slept well at nighttime. So. Tired.

  2. Colds? Oh no! Hope you and Allie are feeling better. You got Cubs playoff tickets?! How cool! Sounds like you have a jam packed and fun Friday. I’m thinking about getting to the expo around one o’clock on Friday. Maybe I’ll see you at the marathon on Sunday somewhere. I like your marathon strategy. So many people go out too fast and then fade at the end. Better to start a little slower than goal pace and do a check-in with yourself at the halfway point and see if you have the energy to speed up. Happy Birthday!

  3. Good luck this weekend!

  4. Sorry to hear you were sick! I’m already dreading when that happens to Siena and I this winter since we rely on getting out of the house at least daily to keep us both sane!

Good luck this weekend at the race! We have similar goals for our first marathon postpartum!
