Pregnancy Update –  37 Weeks

37 weeks

37 weeks and we are officially full term!

I’ve had a lot more symptoms this week. I went to my OB appointment on Monday and Allie’s heart rate seemed low so they hooked me up to monitors and told me I was having contractions. They were happening every two minutes, but they didn’t hurt. Later in the week I started having lower back pain which I haven’t had the entire 9 months I’ve been pregnant. Then last night the back pain got really bad and I started cramping. I thought I was going into labor, but it was a false alarm. Tony rubbed my back for a while and the contractions slowly stopped.

The cramping and back pain have been coming and going randomly. I’ve been doing some research and I think I’m experiencing prodromal labor or “pre-labor”. It consists of early signs of labor and it’s the body’s preparation for real labor, but does not progress to the birth of the baby. I have my next OB appointment on Monday so I will ask my doctor and we’ll see if I’m dilated and making any progress.

How far along? 37 weeks

Due date? September 6, 2015

Total weight gain: 26 pounds (I lost 2 pounds this past week which is strange, because I’ve been eating non-stop).

Baby’s size? Baby Allie is the size of a winter melon (around 21 inches and 6.5 lbs.).

Workouts:

  • Monday: 2 mile run + 2 mile walk
  • Tuesday: 2 mile run w/ CES + 2 mile walk
  • Wednesday: 3 mile walk
  • Thursday: 2 mile run + 2 mile walk
  • Friday: 3 mile power walk on treadmill + an upper body workout
  • Saturday: 60 min power walk on treadmill
  • Sunday: Rest

Maternity Clothes: Still wearing the same outfits over and over again.

Sleep: The cramping has been keeping me up.

Best moments this week: My Mom and I took Lylah to the Green Meadow Farm Petting Zoo in Wisconsin on Wednesday. We had a ball! There was a great mix of activities, the place was very clean, and the farm was huge. It wasn’t just a petting zoo, but also had a hayride (which we loved), multiple playgrounds with slides, tunnels, and swings for the kids to play on.

Miss anything? Sleeping on my stomach.

Movement: She’s moving and grooving in there!

Food cravings: I’ve reached a point in my pregnancy where I just don’t care about some of the things I used to. Many of my food and exercise “rules” have gone out the window and I’m just doing what feels best for me right now.

You know my body is out of whack when I’m craving fast food. I never eat fast food, but I had Portillo’s on Wednesday night and it was one of the best meals I’ve ever had.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Nothing this week

Gender: Girl!

Name: Allison Kay Larsen

Symptoms: Prodromal labor

Belly Button in or out? In.

Wedding rings on or off? On

Happy or Moody: Feeling pretty happy and getting anxious/excited to go into labor.

Looking forward to: My next OB appointment on Monday.

  1. I’m already at that point where I don’t care. Well, I do, but I’m much more lax with my food and workouts. I’m ok with it! 10 weeks of my life won’t kill me and I’m itching to get back to healthy eating and challenging workouts post-baby. For now I’m focusing on nesting, relaxing and sleeping as much as I can!

  2. Getting excited for you! Kinda scary about the possibility of preterm labor though, but that’s great you’ve gotten it checked out. And yea, listening to your body is key during pregnancy…including what you do and don’t want to eat! I also dropped weight at the end of my pregnancy as well. Such a weird (and crazy!) process!

    • It is crazy that I lost weight! I’ve been eating non-stop, but I guess my body needs it. I’m excited you’re already planning postpartum running plans. 🙂

  3. I’ve also reached the “yolo” point of pregnancy. I really do wake up each day trying to eat healthy, but I just don’t have the energy to fight my carb/junk cravings anymore. If you can’t give into them at 8 months pregnant than when can you?

I can’t believe you are still running! When I’m on the treadmill I’ll run in 1/4 mile spurts but that’s about all I can take. I also feel like my stomach is HUGE compared to yours! I’ll blame not being able to run on baby boys size 🙂

I’ve also been experiencing a lot of cramping and some low back pain. I was 1 cm dilated and 50% effaced at my 36 week apt last week so hopefully I’ve made some more progress when I go in tomorrow for my 37 week apt. I figure every cm I can dilate now is one less I have to suffer through during active labor!

    • I totally agree, this is the time to eat carbs/junk and I’m not sorry about it!

Running is getting really hard, so 2 miles is just about my limit right now. It’s awesome you are still working out 5-6 days a week. We are both doing really well!

I had my 37 week apt. today I haven’t made any progress. 🙁 My Mom actually never dilated and had to have a C-section. I really hope that doesn’t happen to me.

  4. At just about 39 weeks now, I’ve been the same way with food and exercise. My husband convinced me we should get Wendy’s last week because I was craving it, and you know what, I don’t feel bad about it! I’m still exercising when I can, so I feel like I’ve got that going for me :).

I’ve had Braxton Hicks contractions for months, so I’m really hoping I can tell when it’s real labor (although my doctor tells me I’ll be able to!). It looks like you’re carrying pretty low (but maybe you have been the whole time?) — I wonder if you’ll have her a little early??

  5. YUM, a Wendy’s frosty and fries sounds really good right now. 😉

You’re getting so close…I can’t wait to see a baby blog post from you soon.

  7. Just FYI- 37 weeks is no longer considered full-term, full-term is 39 weeks. “ACOG and SMFM now define a full-term pregnancy as a pregnancy that lasts between 39 weeks, 0 days and 40 weeks 6 days. Babies born full term have the best chance of being healthy, compared with babies born earlier or later.”

  8. Yay! You’ve made it full term. I have to say after not getting there, that it is a huge relief to know you made that point. I got horrible back pain in the end and woke up at night with it and it took me awhile to realize that it was also contractions. In that last week I also totally was over working out which is very, very strange for me. But it was almost a relief to let myself feel that way. Enjoy your rest time! Also, I was craving Homer’s like crazy at the end. Not my typical dining fare. But again, enjoy it while its there. Take care girl!

    • Thank you, Sarah! The back pain has been really strange, but I definitely think it happens when I’m having contractions. I’m enjoying these foods while I can.

      I can’t wait to read Mary’s birth story. 🙂

  9. Sounds like you are getting so close! Enjoy these last few days/weeks! You are doing great with your weight gain, you deserve some fast food! I’m going to try my best to NOT gain 50 pounds next pregnancy lol it came off quickly, but was definitely not ideal.

    • Christina…I had my OB appointment yesterday and I was down 4 more pounds (6 pounds in two weeks)! I was shocked! My doctor said she’s not too worried because it’s probably just fluid shifts, but I should KEEP EATING. So I’ve been really eating whatever I want the last few days. 🙂

  10. I cannot believe it is almost time!! Oh, and isn’t Portillo’s the best? :-0
